Healing From Anxiety
Anxiety sucks. It can make just trying to function and accomplish simple tasks extremely challenging. When it is bad enough, it can be completely debilitating. The good news is that most people don't realize that we have far more control over our nervous systems than we are taught that we do.
When people seek out help for anxiety from modern medicine, they are often told that they have a chemical imbalance in their brains and will need to take psychiatric drugs for the rest of their lives in attempt to manage their symptoms. Some of these medications are considered by many to be more dangerously addictive than some of the hardest illegal street drugs and in the long run can lead to far worse problems than the ones they were initially trying to help. I'm not saying that all psychiatric medication is bad or that there isn't a place for it. These medications can really help a lot of people who are really suffering and don't yet have the tools to begin to heal their deeper traumas and learn to self regulate and they are not all bad, so please don't feel any guilt or shame around taking these medications if you are currently on them. They should not, however, be the permanent solution for anxiety. they should he a tool to help you eventually get to a place where you can learn to begin to truly heal instead of covering up symptoms.
Getting to the root of where your anxiety comes from, what traumas or imprints you carry that cause chronic anxiety to resurface again and again and stay around for far longer than this natural emotion should and doing the sometimes very uncomfortable work necessary to integrate these wounds and imprints, while far more challenging than simply taking a pill, will lead to true healing and not just the masking of symptoms.
On top of this work, learning tools such as autogenic training, wherein we can train ourselves to generate real sensations in the body and improve our vagal tone which strengths our ability to self soothe, can be completely life changing in terms of experiencing real well-being even in the face of daily anxiety. There are many many tools for regulating the nervous system and they do require some sepf discipline and a lot of practice but they are absolutely worth practicing. having and gaining some degree of mastery over these tools can be the difference between something triggering your anxiety and it ruining your entire day and being able to move through the anxiety in a matter of minutes and enjoying the rest of your day.
All of this is possible and so much more. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you are suffering from anxiety and are ready to begin to make changes.
